The Man Who Tried to Save the World is an inspirational novel about a man who dedicated his life to relieving the suffering of others. Jean Toussaint, born in Haiti, fled his home along with his family after a devastating earthquake and cholera outbreak. They immigrated to America on a dangerous journey through the Darien Gap in Central America and up through Mexico to the U.S. border. Jean attained his goal of becoming a doctor and served with Doctors Without Borders before rising through the ranks of the World Health Organization (WHO) at an early age. His work took him to many impoverished countries hit hard by natural and human-caused disasters. Jean became acutely aware of the ongoing cycle of violence, poverty, and displacement of people that led to wealthier nations closing their doors and their minds to the needy. Dr. Jean Toussaint strove to improve their situation through his courageous efforts to bring aid groups together, by standing up to authoritarian governments, and by calling on the best of humanity to help lessen the hardships of those afflicted.
