Pondoro: Last of the Ivory Hunters is a classic 1955 autobiographical non-fiction book written by the notorious professional big-game hunter and ivory poacher, John Howard "Pondoro" Taylor. The word Pondoro means "lion" in the Chinyungwe language, a title given to Taylor by the locals on the lower Zambezi River when he began his hunting career.
The memoir details Taylor's 30-plus years of wilderness experiences in Africa, during which he was completely isolated from civilization for stretches as long as four years.
